A Workshop of Story, Myth, and Place
|
Embark on a transformative journey at our writer's workshop in Crete, where writing meets the subconscious against the backdrop of ancient culture. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Cretan life, while unlocking your deeper creativity through guided sessions. Join Hari Stefanakis and Hari Alluri for a unique blend of writing techniques and cultural exploration in the heart of the Mediterranean.
SEPTEMBER 30 to OCTOBER 5 in the beautiful seaside village of Panormos, Crete Combining decades of individual and shared experience in group work, writing, and teaching, Dr. Hari Stefanakis and Hari Alluri bring their love of storytelling, poetry, and myth to this five-day workshop. Their psychologically rigorous pedagogy integrates the art of writing with cultural exploration, offering a transformative experience rooted in the themes of form, food, myth, literature, geography, and personal exploration. Unplug from the ordinary and plug into inspiration as you experience the splendor of Crete. In this generative workshop, local myths and literature become more than stories; they become technologies of the subconscious and of communication, tools to deepen your writing and self-awareness and to fuel your own narrative experiments. Food becomes a gateway to memory, identity, and culture, while Crete’s geography—its mountains, seas, and skies—provides inspiration to see and write the world anew. Each day, guided meditations and generative writing experiences help unlock your creativity. By working within formal constraints, you will refine your craft before expanding into new creative directions. Afternoons offer personalized one-on-one feedback and three immersive cultural activities connected to the curriculum. Workshop registration includes accommodation in a beautifully renovated heritage building in the village of Panormos. Multiple-occupancy and single-occupancy rooms are available for selection on a first-come, first-served basis. A small discount is available if you prefer to find your own accommodations (details below). The workshop features five half-days of guided sessions with three immersive cultural experiences. An excursion to the famous Knossos Palace, an evening exploring the literature of Nikos Kazatzakis, and a local food-centred activity are included. With its unique blend of writing, mythology, culture, psychology, and nature, this workshop offers an unparalleled opportunity to expand your creativity while immersing yourself in the rhythms of Cretan life.
